Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner

Course Overview
This role is found in settings such as nurseries, pre-schools, primary schools, hospitals, and social care environments. Early Years Lead Practitioners are proactive and skilled professionals who lead day-to-day practice, supporting the care, learning, and development of children from birth to age eight. They act as role models for play-based learning, mentor colleagues, and provide inclusive, child-centred provision. They also engage with local and national developments in the sector and are committed to ongoing professional growth. Typically, they lead specific areas such as planning, communication, or physical development, and report directly to the setting manager or leader.


Qualification Achieved
On completion of this apprenticeship, apprentice will hold a Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship.
Additional qualifications achieved include:
- Level 2 Functional Skills Maths (If Applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills English (If Applicable)
Progression
The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Deputy Manager / Nursery Manager
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Early Years SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
Learning and Assessment
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
End Point Assessment
Each apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will evaluate the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship is assessed are:
- Assessment method 1 - Observation with questioning
- Assessment method 2 - Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Assessment method 3 - Case study with report and presentation and questioning
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements for apprenticeships vary depending on the level and type of apprenticeship, as well as the employer.
General requirements be:
- At least 16 years old,
- Not be in any other education
- Live in England.

We offer a dedicated virtual learning platform which allows learners to keep on track of their course. In addition to this, it allows our tutors and employers to keep up-to-date with the progression of learners.
