Course Overview
The Children, Young People and Families Manager apprenticeship is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to lead and manage services that support children, young people, and families. The programme focuses on leadership, safeguarding, communication, multi-agency working, team management, and promoting positive outcomes for vulnerable individuals.
Learners will develop an understanding of legislation, safeguarding responsibilities, equality and diversity, behaviour management, quality assurance, and person-centred practice. The apprenticeship also supports learners in developing professional leadership skills, managing teams effectively, and improving service delivery within residential childcare, community, education, and family support settings.
Throughout the programme, learners will apply their learning within the workplace, develop reflective practice, and build the confidence and competence required to manage services, support staff, and meet organisational and regulatory requirements.
Qualification Achieved
On completion of this apprenticeship, apprentice will hold a Level 5 Children, young
people and families manager Apprenticeship certificate.
Additional qualifications achieved include:
- Level 5 Manager in Children’s Residential Care
- Level 2 Functional Skills Maths (If Applicable)
- Level 2 Functional Skills English (If Applicable)
Progression
The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Health and Social Care Management qualifications
- Level 6 Leadership and Management qualifications
- Education or Inclusion Manager
- Residential Care Manager
- Head of Care or Support Services
Learning and Assessment
Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.
End Point Assessment
Each apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will evaluate the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship is assessed are:
- Assessment method 1 - Situational Judgement Test
- Assessment method 2 - Competence Interview informed by Portfolio
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements for apprenticeships vary depending on the level and type of apprenticeship, as well as the employer.
General requirements be:
- At least 16 years old,
- Not be in any other education
- Live in England.

We offer a dedicated virtual learning platform which allows learners to keep on track of their course. In addition to this, it allows our tutors and employers to keep up-to-date with the progression of learners.
